March 2023

by | Mar 17, 2023 | From the President

We all know the story of Mary of Bethany and her sister Martha, the sisters of Lazarus… how when Jesus was teaching in their home, Mary sat at Jesus’ feet, soaking in every word, while Martha was up and busy serving.

We have all, at one time or another, felt the need to put all doing aside and simply rest, pray, listen, and learn. But there is also the time for getting up and being busy with service to others. As Daughters, God calls us to become a blessed blending of the two.

That is the theme for this year’s Spring Assembly: “Time for Mary/Martha.” We will offer the chance for both “being” and “doing.”

During our Morning Prayer Service, we will welcome and install a new DOK Diocesan Chaplain, who will lead our exploration of Celtic Spirituality. There will also be a session with breakout options for you to learn more about the various ministries sponsored by our diocese. We will end our day with a chance to walk a labyrinth–even if just with your finger–as a part of the World Labyrinth Day celebration.

Another highlight will be the Business Meeting, when we will have the opportunity to approve some changes to our bylaws, meet the slate of nominees for our Fall election of new Diocesan Officers, and hear ministry updates from past recipients of the Bishop Gooden Memorial Scholarship.

I certainly hope you will be able to join with Daughters from around the Diocese, online on Saturday, May 6, for “Time for Mary/Martha.”

Serving for His Sake,

Kimberly Cortner
Diocesan President
